What Decap does
Decap CMS is a browser-based editor that commits changes to a Git repository. It does not need a database. It reads a config file that maps collections to folders.
Mapping collections
Each collection points to a folder:
- Folder collection for blog posts, services, or anything with many entries.
- File collection for single pages like home or about.
- Fields define what each entry can contain.
Keep schemas separate
Do not put home, about, and legal pages in one folder. Give each its own collection and its own fields. That keeps the editor from breaking frontmatter it does not understand.
Summary
Decap works best when collections are already separated. The CMS does not fix a messy content model. It exposes it.
