Getting Started

Installation

Install Node.js, clone the project, install dependencies, and start the dev server.

Requirements

  • Node.js 20 or newer. Node 24 LTS is recommended.
  • npm (comes with Node.js).
  • A code editor. VS Code is fine.
  • A terminal.

You do not need a database. You do not need Docker. The theme runs on Node.js alone.

Install Node.js

Linux (Ubuntu, Debian, Linux Mint)

Use NodeSource to install Node.js 24 LTS:

curl -fsSL https://deb.nodesource.com/setup_24.x -o nodesource_setup.sh
sudo -E bash nodesource_setup.sh
sudo apt-get install -y nodejs

Check the version:

node -v
npm -v

You should see v24.x.x and a matching npm version.

macOS

Use Homebrew:

brew install node@24

Or download the installer from nodejs.org.

Windows

Download the LTS installer from nodejs.org. Run it, accept the defaults, and restart your terminal.

Check the version:

node -v

Alternative: NVM

If you need multiple Node.js versions, use NVM instead. It installs Node.js in your home directory and does not touch system packages.

curl -o- https://raw.githubusercontent.com/nvm-sh/nvm/v0.40.5/install.sh | bash
source ~/.bashrc
nvm install 24
nvm use 24

Get the project

If you bought the theme, download the ZIP from Gumroad and extract it. If you have repository access, clone it:

git clone <repository-url> void-theme
cd void-theme

Install dependencies

npm install

This installs SvelteKit, Vite, mdsvex, marked, js-yaml, and the rest of the dependencies listed in package.json.

Next step

Read Running the Project to start the dev server.
